The dog's fame for beating the record made the dog a hot commodity. He was the first Greyhound to ever run 525 yards in less than 30 seconds. During his first run, he matched the track record, but then when he ran again, he beat the world record. Mick was raced at the English Greyhound Derby at White City in London. Rebenschied viewed the entire incident as a communication from God and felt that he was being told to get out of the dog racing business.įather Martin Brophy, a Catholic priest, bought Mick and took him to race in England. During the same storm, a van being driven by Rebenschied's son was blown over and killed an additional four dogs. The tornado ripped the roof off the dog kennel and killed 27 dogs.
